Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Chartres. One of the greatest High Gothic cathedrals; it was the first to use flying buttresses. In pre-Roman Celtic times it was a holy site of the Druids. The Romans built a temple here and there was a Christian basilica as early as the 4th century

One of the fortified Gateways into the town of Loches, the Loire Valley. The Royal Lodge of the Fortress is in the background to the left of the gate, above the town. Charles VII (1403-1461) used Loches as one of his Royal Courts - he was the Dauphin (uncrowned heir) that Joan of Arc convinced to go to Reims to be crowned King.
